Culture Today: Third World (Origin of the term)

The term "Third World" has evolved from its origins to the present, so use that occurred when he came in little resemblance to today.
The creator of it was a French economist, Alfred Sauvy, who used it for the first time in an article he wrote for the French newspaper "L'Observateur" on August 14, 1952, entitled "Three Worlds, a planet."
It refers therefore to the existence of three worlds in a context in which apparently there were 2 that were the supporters of the capitalist system and the United States, or those on the communist side and the Soviet Union in the era are displayed "Cold War".
Arises thus a group of non-aligned countries with these policies Sauvy compared to the third state of the French Revolution, that is, apart from the two main groups that seem to lead the revolution, and in this case the world.
These countries are former colonies of the major European powers mostly (except Yugoslavia, among others), which gained their independence not long ago; and which are not intended to be part of either of the two existing blocks, but come together to offer an alternative to the bi-polarization of the world.

The "first world" would be formed by the countries of the capitalist environment and the United States, with high levels of industrialization; the "second world" would block countries and Soviet communist environment, who rejected the model of capitalist production; and the "third world" would this amalgam of countries not aligned with the previous blocks.
Therefore we observed from its origin, the term "Third World" has had political, economic and social connotations; although they vary after the fall of the Soviet Union, as the so-called "second world" disappears and thus the term ceases to make sense with which it was created; going to be used to define poor countries, developing or occupy a peripheral position as far as geopolitics is concerned, and are mainly characterized by high rates of illiteracy, health deficiencies, critical economic situation (mainly due to external) debt, hunger, etc ...
also it has now emerged the term "Fourth World" to define certain countries and certain strata of the population in the first world countries, but this term will be discussed later.
